CASUALTY star Simon MacCorkindale has died after a four-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
The 58-year-old actor, whose wide-ranging career included six years in the hit BBC drama as Dr Harry Harper, died in the arms of actress wife Susan George.
Publicist Max Clifford said MacCorkindale passed away at about 10.30pm on Thursday in the London Clinic, Harley Street.
George said: "No one could have fought this disease any harder than he did since being diagnosed.
"To me, he was simply the best of everything, and I loved him with all my heart. He will live on in me forever."
MacCorkindale's acting successes included roles in TV mini-series I, Claudius and US soap Falcon Crest.
His first major film role was in Agatha Christie's Death On The Nile. Controller of BBC drama production John Yorke said: "Simon had an extraordinary career ... That amazing energy and appetite for life remained with him to the end.
"He'll be missed massively by his many fans and all who worked with him."
